Brothel tenants vacate property
Tenants from an unlicensed South Hedland brothel which made headlines last week have vacated the Weaver Place property they were running the business from.
The move was made just two days before the end of school holidays, when students were due to return to Port Hedland Primary School classrooms directly opposite the property, managed by Hedland First National.
The _North West Telegraph _ understands the tenants, after upping stumps on Friday October 11, then attempted to sub-let a room in a property 1.2km away on Mauger Place.
Following inquiries at the weekend, the _Telegraph _ received information the brothel's new place of business was a hotel on Webster Street in Port Hedland.
South Hedland police Senior Sergeant Mick Hayes said it was quite normal for businesses of such a nature to reside in a residential property and conduct business from hotel rooms.
Managers of the Mauger Place property were alerted to the potential for the former Weaver Place tenants to sub-let their property when a current occupant attended their South Hedland office on Friday and alluded to the situation.
"We will be speaking with the tenants to reconfirm their agreement regarding their conditions of the lease, with particular attention to not being able to sub-lease," a spokeswoman from the property management company said.
"The current tenants that we placed have attempted to sub-let the property themselves, so it didn't come through us.
"It is obviously a very unique case and we will be doing more research on the protocols and the processes we must follow in order to have them evicted if need be."
Real estate companies from Port and South Hedland have affirmed their commitment to information sharing regarding reference checks for lease applications.
