The East Pilbara BMX Club hosted its second super series on September 3, and the last of the inter-club super series this year, with members and volunteers working tirelessly in the lead-up to the event to raise funds for and help install a new patio, bitumen corners and a new announcing system.

The weekend started with an evening event on Friday, September 2, in which 145 riders took part.

The racing was fast and gave an indication of how impressive the last round would be.

After the wet weather took over in last year’s event — Newman’s first — the East Pilbara BMX Club had something to prove to the other clubs in the series.

There were more than 220 entries overall, with 213 riders from Tom Price, Karratha, Port Hedland and 50 riders from Newman taking part.

The event began at 2pm, consisting of four motos per class and a final. Spectators saw competitive racing from all classes, and a big improvement in Newman’s riders resulting in podium finishes for many.

The club’s focus on coaching this year, including four sessions from pro coaches, as well as the accreditation of five local beginner coaches, seems to be paying off.

All riders rode hard to claim their final points and title at the overall awards presentation.

Three crashes resulted in quick paramedic intervention and transfer to Newman Hospital, where all were discharged shortly afterwards with no major injuries.

The Sunday morning marked the conclusion of the North West Super Series.

Awards were presented to riders who claimed points for competing in three or more rounds.

Many riders will now head to Perth for the State Championships on October 7 and 8.
