A Port Hedland police officer has fronted court after an alleged drunken rampage inside the police station during which it’s claimed he accessed the police armoury.

Kyle Stephen Bedford, 23, who has since been stood down from his job as a constable, faced South Hedland Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing four charges.

At the time, police refused to reveal details of the allegations, but confirmed he was charged with pointing a firearm at another person, possessing a firearm while intoxicated, creating a false belief, and unlawful damage.

It is the latest twist in the controversy involving police in the Pilbara, with several South Hedland officers also facing internal inquiries.

Mr Bedford’s lawyer and a police prosecutor appeared via video link on Monday, with Magistrate Michelle Ridley approving a request to adjourn the matter for eight weeks.

Mr Bedford, a constable at Port Hedland, was off-duty when he allegedly entered the station on July 9 and accessed the police armoury before waving a gun at shocked colleagues.

He is due reappear in South Hedland Magistrate’s Court again on October 3.
