Developing a new image

Four years of hard work is finally coming together for Pilbara Photographics owner Peter Carter, who is gearing up for the start of construction on his new $2 million facility in South Hedland.

The new building will include a gallery, camera shop, coffee shop, workshop and training room and will be the base for the Pilbara businessman who has been working from the South Hedland Square shopping centre for more than eight years.

For Mr Carter, the eventual move to his own space will, among other things, mean he can provide training and workshops to the community, which he said people were calling out for.

“I couldn’t think of a better time to start to build,” Mr Carter said.

“I think the people of Port Hedland are as tough as the iron ore that comes out of the ground. The town needs developments, it needs something to rejuvenate the town centre.

“Port Hedland has got so much potential.”

Mr Carter said his new venture would hopefully provide a local hub and meeting place for community members.

He plans to include wi-fi and charging ports as well as photo- printing facilities.

To increase the facility’s green footprint, Mr Carter also plans to fully-fit the 950sqm building’s roof with solar panels.

The new Pilbara Photographics is expected to open in early 2017 and Mr Carter said he couldn’t be more excited about the months ahead.
