Drugs and property seized
Police have seized illicit drugs, weapons and more than $1 million in assets and stolen property after busting an alleged Pilbara drug ring late last month.
East Pilbara Detectives officer-in-charge Detective Sergeant Tony Langer said police began Operation MAGLOR in July last year before searching properties in Perth, South Hedland, Karratha, Dampier and Newman on January 22.
He said officers found methamphetamine, MDMA, cocaine, a sawn-off shotgun, stolen computers, power tools and cash.
Seven men aged from 28-60 now face more than 100 drug and stolen property related offences in connection to the seizures.
"It was established during the investigation that a Perth-based male was supplying drugs to a South Hedland based drug dealer, who would then supply others in South Hedland, Karratha and Newman," Det. Sgt Langer said.
He said Operation MAGLOR had been a long investigation, involving covert surveillance and co-ordination between police units across the State, which greatly boosted public safety.
"Prohibited drugs, particularly methamphetamine perpetuate crime in our society," he said.
"People steal to pay for drugs, commit violent crime whilst on drugs and it has a huge impact on the community and government agencies as a whole," he said.
"WA Police take a zero-tolerance approach to prohibited drugs and police will be maintaining a focus on those who supply drugs."
He said police estimated the value of the recovered stolen property to be more than $50,000.
The Proceeds of Crime Squad, in co-operation with East Pilbara Detectives, also seized $1.3 million worth of assets owned by the alleged offenders.
Detectives from East and West Pilbara and Rockingham as well as police from South and Port Hedland and Newman took part.
