Flying Doctor Support

Fortescue Metals Group presented a cheque for more than $73,000 to the Royal Flying Doctor Service last week.

The funds come from the combined fundraising efforts of Fortescue’s Pilbara sites, the sale of the miner’s port operations scrap metal in the 2011-12 financial year and a function at the company’s Solomon mine.

Royal Flying Doctor Service general marketing and communications manager Nick Harvey said the RFDS was grateful for the donation.

“FMG has been a great supporter in the past, obviously understanding the crucial role the RFDS plays in rural and remote communities, and we look forward to their continued support into the future,” he said.

“As the RFDS is now transporting more patients than ever before in WA, community and corporate support is an essential component in helping us meet this demand and ensuring we can continue to deliver aeromedical and primary health care where it is needed.”

The funds raised by Fortescue will be used by RFDS to purchase a portable critical care monitor, an infant incubator and three video laryngoscopes.

Fortescue chief executive Nev Power said he was delighted to present RFDS with the cheque.

“We’re well aware of the outstanding service provided by the RFDS,” he said.
