The rumour mill was aflutter last Monday with reports the Port Hedland Cup had attracted a secret royal visitor.

Speculation Prince Harry was in town appeared to be sparked when locals began spotting military vehicles in Port Hedland last Sunday.

A Facebook user on the Everything Hedland page said she saw a "spitting image" of the Prince being escorted by army vehicles past Woolworths.

Others also claimed to have spotted the Prince with some commenting he was in town "looking for a Pilbara princess" and suggested he should visit the Pier Hotel during his search. The rumour even reached the _North West Telegraph _ with someone offering the scoop.

Unfortunately for any hopeful single ladies out there, the Telegraph can confirm the red-headed prince was not in town.

Earlier this month, he attended the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and a World War I centenary ceremony in London.

The defence force said the military vehicles spotted by locals were members of the Pilbara Regiment conducting routine unit training.

Perhaps the regiment has a Prince Harry doppelganger among its ranks?
