The Hedland 8 Ball Association participated for the fifth year in row in the WA Eight Ball Federations annual country week event held over the WA Day long weekend in Perth.

Teams from all over country WA participated this year, with 56 teams competing for divisional honours.

Hedland sent two teams to this year’s event, with the Hedland young guns taking out the runner-up flag in division 10.

Hedland 8 Ball Association president Grant Beaton was full of praise for the boys efforts.

“The competition over two days is very intense and for them to reach the grand final in their division was a great effort,” he said.

“Of the five players in the Division 10 team, two had never played in country week previously and for the other three this was only their second appearance.”

Beaton thanked all the sponsors who helped make Hedland’s attendance at country week possible, adding that players had already started fundraising to attend the 2017 event.

“Without Hedland Launch Service, Pilbara Ports and the local 8 Ball venues of South Hedland Bowling Club, Walkabout Hotel and Cooke Point Recreation Club, country week would simply not happen and would be out of reach for Hedland players,” he said.

“Apart from the support we receive from our sponsors, the association has to raise funds to offset the cost of players attending the competition in Perth.

“The Hedland 8 Ball Association will be running a sausage sizzle at the Cooke Point Recreation Club Markets on Saturday July, 9 starting at 5pm to begin raising funds for country week 2017.

“The association will also hold an exhibition match between the country week teams at the Rec Club’s Sportsmans Bar which will start at 7pm sharp.”

Anyone interested in playing or watching World Rules Eight Ball is encouraged to come along to the regular Wednesday night competition played at South Hedland Bowling Club, Walkabout Hotel and Cooke Point Recreation Club at 7pm.
