One game Hedland resident will be letting his co-workers go to town on his facial hair next week, all in the name of a good cause.

Scott-Andrew Hazell has been growing his beard for more than 12 months and admits it’s a pretty poor showing for all of his time and effort grooming his luscious locks.

The Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation worker has been collecting donations from family, friends and colleagues in a bid to raised $200 for the annual World’s Greatest Shave.

“I put my goal to $200 and I’ve raised just over $100,” he said. “I would have loved to raise $2000, but I had to be realistic because it is a small town.”

“There’s so many people that deal with cancer whether it’s blood cancer or lung cancer or something else.

“Something needs to be done really so if I can help out anyway I can, I will.”

Aussies around the country will be colouring and shaving their hair from March 10-13 in name of the Leukaemia Foundation’s most important fundraiser.

The event provides a fun way to lessen the impact of blood cancer in communities, according to Leukaemia Foundation in WA general manager Andrew York.

“More than 150,000 people are expected to take part in the World’s Greatest Shave from March 10-13 and they’ll do so at home, work, school and our public events,” he said.

“Shaving is what we’d love everyone to do, but people can colour their hair instead and guys can wax their legs or chest.”

Mr Hazell will be shaving his beard next Monday, with other colleagues chipping in and colouring their hair in support.
