Increased traffic police will be patrolling Hedland throughout the school holidays as they place an extra focus on the roads, targeting drivers doing the wrong thing.

Officers will be targeting road users for all poor road user-behaviour including speeding, use of mobile phones and anything classed as a category A offence, according to Port Hedland Police Sergeant Jayd Morawski.

“We have a mix of normal passenger vehicles, the omni-present heavy industry coupled with some of the longest trains in the world and we all use the same space and for us that’s just the way Hedland is,” he said.

“Unfortunately that has led to complacency.

“Especially with the focus on school holidays, we need people to pay attention to their driving and make sure they plan their trips and arrive alive.”
