Karijini still closed

SHANNON HAMPTONNorth West Telegraph

Karijini National Park is likely to remain closed until the end of the week after heavy rain in the area.

The Department of Environment and Conservation said it was continually assessing damage at Karijni and Millstream national parks in order to reopen them.

A DEC spokeswoman said the department aimed to reopen Millstream in the next couple of days and Karijini by the end of the week.

“There has been no major damage to either park, although there has been some build-up of logs and weeds in the gorges at Karijini and some of the trail markers have been dislodged,” she said.

“The main problem is the flooding, it is too dangerous for people to go out there.”

Meanwhile, Python Pool at Millstream Chichester National Park is now clear of the dead fish discovered there in November.

The spokeswoman said the fish were either removed or consumed by other animals.
