The opening round of the North Pilbara Football League saw reigning premiers Karratha Kats make a strong statement, downing Karratha Falcons by 51 points.

The contest took place at Bulgarra Oval on April 22 with the Kats keeping the home side goalless across the first two quarters.

Strong forward pressure saw Karratha Kats hold a 26 point lead at half time after kicking four goals to zero.

Kats continued to score at will with a further four goals in the third term, while the Falcons scored their first two goals of the game.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, that marked the end of their resistance with the Kats running away in the final term booting 2.1 while keeping the home side scoreless in the fourth quarter.

The final score saw Karratha Kats defeat Karratha Falcons 10.5 (65) to 2.2 (14).

Meanwhile in the other round one clash, Dampier Sharks fired a warning shot to the rest of the competition when they demolished Wickham Wolves 11.11 (77) to 0.0.

The Sharks controlled every aspect of the game, scoring at will across the four quarters.

Chanti McHenry was the standout goal kicker with four goals, while Tylah Day and Tiahnee Pasche booted two apiece.

Oliver Dredge and Sarah Owens also chipped in with a goal each to power their side to the 77 point win.

Round two of the NPFL Women’s competition will kick off on April 29 when Karratha Falcons and Wickham Wolves clash at Bulgarra Oval.

Meanwhile it will be a grand final rematch on April 30 with Hedland Blazers taking on Karratha Kats at Kevin Richardson Oval.
