Kids’ creativity shines in art exhibition

Port Hedland Primary School students are getting the opportunity to show off their talents and creativity in the annual Port Hedland Primary School Art Exhibition.

Students have been working each week throughout the year on different pieces, ranging from 3D clay pieces to paintings, art teacher Mukami Ireri said.

“We like to encourage our kids and give them the opportunity to be creative in an artistic way,” she said. “We really want them to express themselves in a creative and positive way.”

Over the course of the two-week exhibition, the school will put the children’s work up for sale and the proceeds will go back into the art projects for the following year and encourage students and put value on their work, Mrs Ireri said.

Students also get to vote on their favourite pieces of art to win the coveted people’s choice award at the end of the two weeks and winners get certificates and prizes at a special school assembly.

Year 3 student Riley Dul said he was excited to see his artwork hung up for everyone to see.

“It’s cool — my favourite ones are the clay because you get to mould it and it feels cool,” he said.

The public will be able to come see the students’ efforts before school from 7.30am-8.10am and after school from 2-3.30pm.
