Liquor restrictions for South Hedland

North West Telegraph

Police in South Hedland have placed restrictions on liquor outlets after "antisocial behaviour in the community" over the past 24 hours.

The restrictions will be effective until the "close of business on June 6" and apply to takeaway sales of packaged liquor in all liquor outlets in the town of Port Hedland.

WA police issued outlets a letter informing them of the move, signed by Senior Sergeant Dean Snashall, officer in charge of South Hedland Police Station, this morning.

Officers later took to Facebook to inform the general public of the restrictions.

The post said: "Due to antisocial behaviour in the community of South Hedland in the last 24 hours, Police are placing restrictions on all liquor outlets within the meaning section 114 of the Liquor Control Act."

No sale of full strength beerNo sale of premix alcohol in cartons, individual or six-pack formNo sale of pre-packaged shotsNo cask salesRestricted to 1 x carton of mid strength beer per personRestricted to 1 x bottle of spirits per personRestricted to 2 x bottles wine per person

The police Facebook post said the "decision was not made lightly, but made in the best interest of community safety."

"Unlike in previous ties, police have chosen not to stop the sale of alcohol in its entirety so as not to impact those good and law-abiding members of our community," the post said.

"Please do not take your frustrations out on the liquor stores as this decision is out of their control."
