Hedland resident Nur-Irdah Halik will be losing her lovely locks for the second time in five years for a cause close to her heart.

At the end of this month, Nur will shave her head at the Esplanade Hotel to raise funds for Redkite, who provide vital support and services to young people with cancer and their families.

Nur said that, since participating in the World’s Greatest Shave in 2011 and working for Redkite last year, she had become passionate about raising awareness and funds for people suffering from the disease.

“I'm shaving all of my hair off for Redkite, a wonderful charity that provides support to children undergoing cancer treatment,” she said.

“I worked for Redkite for a couple of months and during that time I was in awe of the work and dedication of the team and the effect it had on so many people's lives.

“They give financial support for day-to-day expenses, counselling support and scholarships which is great because a lot of people do struggle with the financial side of cancer treatment and all the costs associated with it.”

Nur said the head shave was a great way of raising awareness for the cause, adding she hoped people would dig deep and help her achieve her fundraising target of $2000.

“I have started an online fundraiser and so far I have raised almost $800,” she said.

“Everyone have had families members or friends with cancer, so people have been very generous so far.

“I would love for people to come along to watch the shave, I will still be taking donations on the night.”
