Man fronts court after hit and run allegations

Rebecca ParishNorth West Telegraph

A man has fronted South Hedland District Court following allegations he was part of a hit and run incident involving a 14-year-old boy in May this year.

Zachary Armstrong pleaded guilty to charges including an act or omission causing bodily harm and wilfully destroying evidence earlier this year, but yesterday lodged an application to change his plea.

The incident happened on May 3 when the boy was riding his push bike along Buoy Crescent and Pharolope Street near the JD hardy Centre and was allegedly struck by a small rounded light-coloured vehicle.

Mr Armstrong is due to reappear in South Hedland on November 28.

The father of the teenage boy, who suffered multiple leg injuries requiring specialist surgery at Princess Margaret Hospital, was in court for the hearing.
