Memorial event honours Finucane Island regular
Hedland's darts players hit the bullseye last month as they held a successful Barbara "Shorty" Ramirez Memorial Trophy event at the Finucane Island Club.
Up to 22 mixed male and female teams of two took part, with Ashley Councillor and Leonnie Murphy eventually beating Erica Walters and her partner in the final after a long round of knockout games.
Finucane Island Ladies Darts club president Margie Mackay said the 2015 event was extra special because the traditional Mother's Day competition had been renamed in memory of Ms Ramirez.
"Shorty played darts for Finucane Island for years," Ms McKay said.
"So it was suggested by one of the girls, why don't we have it as the Shorty Ramirez memorial, and it was very special with her daughters coming down to present the shield to the winning team."
The May 16 event also raised money to assist up to 24 Hedland ladies travel to Carnarvon for this month's Pilbara Ladies Darts Championships.
The Pilbara championships have been going for about 50 years, with Hedland boasting such veterans as Ms McKay and Erica Walters, who has attended the past 37 championships.
Ms McKay said the ladies loved darts and the Pilbara championships because of their social atmosphere.
