Motorists travelling on the Great Northern Highway between South Hedland and the Auski Roadhouse are being warned to watch out for stray cattle.

Main Roads WA Pilbara maintenance coordinator Mick Edwards said cattle mustering was taking place near Abydos and Woodstock stations from today through to Thursday.

"The cattle will be run under the Great Northern Highway beneath the Coonarie Creek Bridge," he said.

"It is advised there could be a number of stray cattle on or near the road during the operation.

"Please use extra caution in the area."
