Prospective small and large retailers can choose from new land in the Newman town centre after the State Government announced a series of new lots for sale.

Minister for Lands Terry Redman said the land in the Newman Gateway Commercial Centre was ideal for investors keen to open new businesses as well as existing Newman companies looking for more space to expand into.

"The lots are designed to be suitable for a range of businesses with a variety of footprint requirements from service industries to wholesaling, showrooms, trade and professional services," he said.

"Newman Gateway is an important and positive development for Newman in terms of promoting additional choice for consumers … (as well as attracting) new business or allowing existing businesses to expand."

The release of the new lots comes at a time when business confidence has declined in the Pilbara over the past 12 months on the back of falling iron ore prices.

However, the long-term future of the town received a much-needed boost when BHP Billiton announced earlier this year it would invest $30 million to build a new shopping centre in Newman's central business district.

Mr Redman said the new commercial land joined increases in residential and industrial offerings.

"LandCorp is also offering quality housing choices at its East Newman residential development (and) light industrial lots at the Newman Light Industrial Area," he said.
