About 40 riders battled it out under lights at Port Hedland Action Park on Saturday night.

It was the first time the club has held racing under lights at its venue on Buttweld Road.

At this time of the year, it is the best way to beat the heat.

The event was hailed a success and the Port Hedland Motorcycle Club thanked their sponsors, including Coates Hire and Onsite, for providing the 26 lighting towers that allowed the event to go ahead.

Binbirri Contracting and Force Equipment also provided invaluable help with track preparation.

Without the help of the local business community and proactive club members, PHMC spokesman John van Maanen said the club would not be able to host such events.

"We hope to have round 1 motocross next March under lights and invite the whole town to come out and watch," he said.

The club's annual general meeting will beheld at the Port Hedland Golf Club on October 25 and the new season will start with membership renewal on November 1.

There will also be sand drags on November 8 under lights.
