It is still unknown whether the construction of Bunnings’ Port Hedland store has been delayed, as town rumour would have it.

The warehouse store was due to open later this year but construction on the 4700sqm block at the Kingsford Smith Business Park is yet to begin. The hardware giant is the anchor tenant for the new business district.

Bunnings property general manager Andrew Marks said the company was continuing to work through the details of its Port Hedland development.

“We will keep the local community updated as these details are confirmed, ” he said.

In January, Mr Marks said the store was still in the early stages of design but the company was eager to get on site as soon as possible.

He confirmed the new store, a first for the Pilbara, would maintain its tradition of hosting sausage sizzles to assist community organisations with fundraising.

The $12 million warehouse will feature a timber trade area, building and landscaping supplies, an outdoor nursery and a 110-bay car park. About 75 jobs are expected to be created once the store is open.
