You Am I frontman Tim Rogers has been announced as headline act at this years North West Festival Sundowner.

Port Hedland Yacht Club will host an evening of live, laid back live music on Sunday August 21 to close the North West Festival.

Rogers said he is looking forward to playing a more relaxed gig following his set with You Am I at North West Festival.

“(I put) more attention into lyrics and singing a bit better because often with a rock and roll show you don’t let finesse get in the way of a good time,” he said.

“Even though the energy level may appear to be less than with a rock and roll show…there’s a different intensity to it because there’s actually the possibility that people are listening and I just try and put as much into them.”

Having grown up in WA and toured the country extensively, Rogers said is no stranger to the Pilbara and enjoys getting out and playing to regional crowds.

“There tends to be a lot more enthusiasm out of the big cities...maybe because less shows come through,” he said.

”Doing a city show is always exciting but getting out of town’s always a thrill because you never know what to expect.”

Joining Rogers at the sundowner will be Panics’ frontman Jae Laffer, the Elephant and the Coffee Table and Tanya Ransom.

Aside from the music, there will also be family friendly activities including a bouncy castle, face painting and roving performers.

The event will wrap up the 2016 North West Festival music weekender which includes performances from The Rubens, Sarah Blasko, The Veronicas, Urthboy, Harts and many more.

Tickets for the festival and the sundowner are available from Port Hedland Visitor Centre, South Hedland Library or online via northwestfestival.com.au.
