Something new has been stirring in Pretty Pool and within the month residents will be treated to the smells of cooking wafting from the area's first eatery.

For the past couple of months, the Pretty Pool Provedore has been taking shape in the apartment complex on the corner of Counihan Street and Dowding Way.

The venture, an initiative of FORM, will be headed up by chef Marco Porta and restaurant manager Gloria Ferro, who arrived in Port Hedland two weeks ago direct from a trip home to Italy.

Last week, Mr Porta described the couple's excitement at being able to put their mark on the community restaurant.

He said having the opportunity to bring the couple's Italian culture, food and hospitality to Port Hedland was "a gift".

"I am excited to once again get my hands into some flour to make delicious breads and pastas as my nonna taught me as a little boy growing up in Milan," he said.

"But the really exciting side of the Pretty Pool Provedore is being able to apply all my training to deliver a menu that will continue to inspire and delight the Port Hedland community.

"You should not expect an Italian restaurant, but you should be able to feel the Italian passion for food in every item you eat."

FORM regional manager Amy Plant said when the restaurant opened next month the aim was to deliver a venue unlike anything Port Hedland had seen before.

She said the focus would be on using fresh seasonal produce in innovative, frequently changing menu options, and coffee at the price you would pay in the city.

"A community restaurant, nestled in the heart of Pretty Pool, delivering a mix of fresh food, a fabulous menu, home-baked breads, preserves, chutneys and amazing community programming - a provedore in the true sense of the word," she said.

Mr Porta said he and Ms Ferro had spent the past few weeks getting to know their new home.

"It is so large, there is so much to discover," he said.

Ms Plant said the restaurant had been made possible with the support of BHP Billiton and residents could sample the menu at Welcome to Hedland night this Friday, Celebrate WA day on June 1 and the West End Markets on June 6.
