Residents at Nullagine have become so fed up with truckies relieving themselves in public that a local councillor has requested "no camping" signs be put up to try to shoo them out of town.

Lower central ward Councillor Biddy Schill asked during an ordinary council meeting if the signs could be put up around parking bays in the town.

She said they were needed especially across from the Nullagine Roadhouse on Walter Street, as many trucks were staying there overnight.

But Shire of East Pilbara chief executive Allen Cooper said the real cause of the request was because of truck drivers treating the town like their own private urinal.

"Opposite the roadhouse there's a few trucks starting to use it as a camping zone and more to the point is that people are using the area as a toilet as well," he said.

"It's the effect of people staying there, not accessing the public toilets and just going wherever they can that's causing the problem.

"Obviously there's plenty of countryside and other areas people can go, but right there is just in people's faces and is totally unacceptable."

East Pilbara manager of technical services-rural Oliver Schaer is following up on the request.
