The start of Port Hedland's race season was delayed again earlier today after race inspectors deemed the track unsafe due to heavy rainfall.

The first meet, scheduled for May 16, was also cancelled due to railings not meeting safety requirements.

Port Hedland Turf Club steward Troy Melville said he was disappointed the racing did not go ahead again today.

"The weather is the one thing beyond our control," he said.

"The Jockey Board inspected the track and there were a couple of sections that were still a bit soft and they weren't comfortable with racing on it.

"It's no one's fault but hopefully we should be up and running for the next meeting."
