Local petrol-heads are set for a mud bath this weekend as they tackle bog holes and jumps at the Port Hedland Speedway in a Leukaemia Foundation fundraising event.

For local four-wheel-drive, car and even motorbike drivers, the Mud Bash and Burn Outs event this Sunday from 10.30am is an opportunity to pit their skills against a boggy mud pit, swelled by recent rains.

Event co-organiser Sandy Macpherson said it promised plenty of laughs.

"It is funny to watch the cars ripping through the mud and over jumps and doing burnouts and throwing mud about as they get bogged," he said.

"This year, I would say it is going to be a lot boggier, so there are going to be a lot more people that won't get through and it will definitely test out their skills."

Yet the Mud Bash is more than just a chance to watch competitors get down and dirty - it will also raise money for Leukaemia Foundation programs in support of people with blood cancers.

Organisers Macpherson and Leigh and Dion Italiano have already collectively raised more than $180,000. The trio raised the money from sponsors and donors after taking part in the 2012 and '13 Leukaemia Foundation Aussie Muscle Car Run in which participants drive as part of a 3000km rally.

"(We got involved in the Muscle Car Run) because Leigh, Dion and myself wanted to have a bit of fun and raise money for a good cause," Macpherson said.

"Also a few of our family members had that cancer and there seemed to be not much going on in the North West in terms of (Leukaemia Foundation) fund raising."

The event will also include a burnout competition, in which competitors can "show off their pride and joy or just that bomb they purchased for the event", Macpherson said.
