A 30-year-old man has been transferred to hospital with minor injuries after the truck he was travelling in rolled over on Marble Bar Road about 6.30am this morning, spilling a large amount of oil on the road.

The truck crashed about 80kms North of the Great Northern Highway, blocking traffic in both directions.

Newman Police Senior Constable Ross Jones said the driver had been transferred to Newman Hospital for medical attention but could possibly be flown to Perth for further attention.

He said the truck and the trailer was carrying about 60,000 litres of oil, but added not all of the oil had spilled onto the road.

Police, Newman Fire and Rescue and St Johns attended, with Main Roads also on the scene to divert traffic around the crash site.

Snr Const. Jones said the road could possibly be closed until late tonight as people work to transfer the remaining oil to another truck and work to move the vehicle.

He said people should take care when travelling around road works or crashes and to be patient on their travels during the school holiday period.
