Today will mark a big occasion for Hedland mums Laura Turner and George Cartwright as they watch their daughters, Adalyn and Millie, head off for their first day of kindergarten and pre-primary respectively.

The girls have been best friends since birth but, with Adalyn born in August and Millie in March, they had to be split across two year groups.

Ms Cartwright said it was frustrating the girls would be separated, but it had not taken anything away from their excitement.

“Millie can’t wait to start preprimary, she loved kindy last year and this will be even better,” she said.

“But Laura and I both have younger kids, so it will be a while yet until we get a bit of peace and quiet during the day.”

Ms Turner said she was nervous but excited for her oldest child to start kindergarten.

“Adalyn is just so ready for school, I can’t wait to for her to start,” she said.

“I’m not sure who’s more nervous, me or her.”
