Spirits soar at V Swans Cup

Rebecca ParishNorth West Telegraph

Hedland Senior High School and surrounding South Hedland sporting grounds played host to five other Pilbara schools as they converged in town for the 2016 V Swans Cup.

This year was the first time the event was run over two days, with Newman Senior High School, Karratha Senior High School, St Luke’s College and Tom Price Senior High School all taking part.

Year 7-10 students played football and netball in two divisions and V Swans Hedland regional manager Tracey Swami said the carnival was a huge success and gave students the opportunity to compete against other students and schools from across the Pilbara.

“A particular highlight for me was the involvement of our upper school students across the football and netball comps,” she said.

“These students, who are completing a Certificate II in Sport Coaching, put those skills to action by taking on coaching and umpiring roles within their schools.

“They really got involved and were invested in their teams, which was really pleasing to see.”
