Plans for a high-profile music event in Port Hedland took a step forward last week, with a leading WA event company winning the tender to organise the festival.

In its submission, Sunset Events, which organises popular musical festivals Southbound, West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots, Groovin’ the Moo and Stereosonic, provided letters of in-principle agreement from three major contemporary Australian acts to perform at the event and estimated audience numbers for the first year at 4000 to 6000.
Port Hedland Mayor Kelly Howlett said the Town was working closely with Sunset Events to develop a plan, and would announce more information in the near future.
“The first event is planned to be held this year at the McGregor Street Reserve,” she said.
“We already have support from the resources industry, with BHP Billiton and Atlas Iron committing funding to the event, which is a great start.”
Sunset Events managing director David Chitty said Sunset Events was thrilled to have been awarded the tender for the event.
“We are very excited to be working alongside the Town of Port Hedland in sharing their vision to deliver a world-class event to the regional centre of the Pilbara,” he said.
