Swans hand Brewers bitter loss

Tensions flared on Saturday night as Swans battled it out against Brewers in the first of the Port Hedland Baseball Association finals.

The two teams were vying for a place in the grand final against the top-ranked Pirates.

Both sides took to the field with a no-holds-barred approach which kept scores close, until Swans broke away in the last two innings to claim the victory 12-8.

Swans' Kyle Edwards held the opposing Brewers at bay from the mound, striking out 11 batters.

Edwards and teammate Liam Gangell had two hits each from two, with Dion Johnson going two from five. Gangell and Johnson scored two RBI each from their time at bat. Kendall Budd, Fred Lindberg and Kenny Brackin kept Brewers' chances alive with Budd hitting three singles from six, Lindberg one from four, and Brackin with one from five. All three earned an RBI each.

The reserves teams for Sharks and Swans are at Marie Marland Reserve tonight in the preliminary final, the winning team will meet Pirates in the grand final. The game starts at 7.30pm.

A-grade Swans and Pirates will meet on Saturday, March 14, at 7.30pm for the first game of the grand final series.
