Police are appealing for witnesses after a 16-year-old Port Hedland girl was allegedly attacked by three men in Cooke Point on Tuesday.

The girl was walking home from the Cooke Point Recreation Club about 10pm, moments after her boyfriend left, and was alone when the assault took place.

"Because we live three seconds down the road we didn't think anything of it," she said.

"I saw some people down the end of the street and thought I'd go down past the oval because there's always lights on, but when I got there it was dark.

"I walked through a broken gate in a carpark when I heard two people behind me asking for a cigarette and I said 'no'.

"They started abusing me and calling me a white c***, but I kept walking with my head down.

The victim said she saw someone coming from her front before feeling someone pull her hair from behind and punch her in the side of the face.

"I fell to the ground and put my arms up to protect my face… it felt like hours, but I guess the whole thing only lasted a few seconds," she said.

"One of them said 'let's get out of here she's a white girl', before they all fled."

White shoes with graffiti painted and a pair of black shorts were all the victim could remember of the assailants' identities.

"They stank of alcohol and were slurring their words," she said.

"I just remember feeling so scared, it was really dark out there and no one was around… not even any dogs barking.

"It could've happened to anyone."

Port Hedland police Sergeant Jason Gentili appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

"The attack took place around Keesing Street along the pathway between the Andrew Mclaughlin Centre and the primary school near the carpark," he said.

"We're seeking information from anyone who heard anything about 10pm that night from the oval area or saw any groups of dark skinned males roaming around, to give Port Hedland police a call.

"There's no CCTV footage around there, and they weren't at the pub, so we need people to come forward."

Anyone with information should call Port Hedland police on 9173 8100.
