Now school is out, two of Hedland’s top-performing Year 12 students sat down with theNorth West Telegraph to offer their advice to prospective senior students in 2016.

After receiving top honours for the Vocational Education and Training program at Hedland Senior High School, Rebecca Neech is hoping to pursue her passion for childcare.

She said she would apply for a Certificate III in Childcare and was looking for traineeship opportunities locally.

“I’ve always wanted to work with children, whether it is in a childcare centre or as a nanny,” she said. “Eventually I would love to go to university to become a kindergarten teacher.”

Ms Neech said the key to success in vocational studies was to stay organised and maintain a good work-life balance.

Ahnaf Khan is setting his sights on medical school after receiving the highest forecast Australian Tertiary Admission Rank at HSHS.

He has applied to study at universities in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.

“I’m looking forward to going to university, it will also be a good opportunity to leave Port Hedland and live out of home for the first time, ” he said.

“I have applied for courses in medicine and engineering; I would love to do either, so I’ll leave it until the university results come out to make my final decision.”

Mr Khan said the key to stress-free ATAR exam preparation was consistent study across the year.

“Come home from school, open your books and revise regularly, ” he said.

Year 12 co-ordinator Chi Yenn See Tho said she was proud of the pair and looked forward to seeing their progress next year.

Year 12 students will receive their ATAR results on December 29 and the first round of university or traineeship offers in January.
