The East Pilbara V Swans’ star forward Chelsea Randall will join WA’s best female footballers in a curtain-raiser exhibition match before the Western Derby on Saturday afternoon.

On this historic day 44 female footballers will be donning Eagles and Dockers colours.

The match is the first of a three-round competition in whichgames will be played across the country in preparation for the official launch of the first AFL National Women’s League in early 2017.

Randall, the V Swans East Pilbara regional manager said it was an honour to be selected to play alongside the best in the State, including Newman-born player Allana Dickie.

“The players have been picked from a talent academy that’s been running since last October, and (from) previous exhibition games,” she said.

“I’ve been picked to play for the West Coast Eagles, which is fortunate because it’s my childhood AFL team.

“My dad wasn’t too happy though, he’s a diehard Dockers supporter.”

Ms Randall said it was a historic moment for women’s football, which she believes has come a long way during her 14 years in the sport.

“I started playing when I was 11 at the Safety Bay Stingers ... when I made my first tackle on one of the boys that was the it, I knew this was the sport for me,” she said.

“It was difficult when I first started playing ... but the times have really changed, perceptions are changing which is good, we are treated pretty equal nowadays.

“This match is a stepping stone to grow our game for the national competition next year and will be the first time a women’s footy match has been televised on Fox Sports.

“It is great to showcase talent in women’s football to the broader football community. It’s a very exciting opportunity.”

Bouncedown is at 3.10pm.
