Hedland’s judo experts can now stop, rewind and even fast forward their best moves ahead of the upcoming State championships next month, thanks to a grant from BHP Billiton.

Sangrok Hedland Judo sensei Daniel Zammit said BHP’s support allowed the martial artists to purchase a new television and computer and install it with the assistance of the Town of Port Hedland in their clubrooms.

The technology allows coaches to explain intricate moves by showing club members videos of online tutorials, Zammit said.

“To be able to show it in motion, then stop, pause, rewind and replay, we can teach the students the finer points of a technique,” he said.

“We are also trialling video replay for students so they can self-correct by watching their own motions.”

“This equipment will enable our players to lift to the next level and considering 24 of them are competing at the State titles next month in Perth, we need to continue to improve our dojo’s equipment.”

The Sangrok Judo club train Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at the Jim Caffey Memorial Hall near the Turf Club in Port Hedland.
