WA filmmakers to bare all in new comedy film showing the Pilbara’s wild beauty
WA filmmakers are set to expose more than just the Pilbara’s wild beauty on the big screen after securing financial backing for new movie The Naked Wanderer.
Written by Perth comedian Callan Durlik, the film follows a man’s adventures after he loses his job and girlfriend and decides to walk from Margaret River to North West WA to raise money for charity. The comedy catch is he plans to walk naked.
Durlik wrote the script during a visit to the Pilbara after being amazed by its natural beauty.
“The Naked Wanderer is all about the romance of the landscape and him finding himself in that beautiful area of the world,” he told theTelegraph earlier this year.
“So we are hoping to help the region out with tourists and tourism interest.”
Yet the Pilbara and its landscape will not only star on the screen. Locals have also been important behind the scenes as financial consultants RSM Cameron Karratha and local government body the Pilbara Regional Council helped Durlik find backers for the film. He also hopes to get the help of Pilbara local governments in the coming months to find filming locations in the region.
“I still have to pinch myself that the 100 pages I took three years to write is going to be made into a movie,” he said.
