Warm welcome for Hedland Dome
After years of planning, months of building and plenty of speculation, the doors of Port Hedland's Dome were opened to the public last week.
Dome Cafe Group operations director Andrew Thomas was one of a number of Perth-based staff members on hand to help out franchise owner Danielle Anderson with the opening. Mr Thomas said the outlet employed about 50 staff members, ranging from people taking up their first jobs to those in their 60s.
He said he was excited about the opening and was on hand to make sure everything was up to standard.
Local business representatives had the chance to try out the food and drinks before the outlet opened to the public.
Mr Thomas said the Wednesday morning event was the first time Dome had held a business breakfast before the opening of a restaurant.
He said the event acknowledged local businesses were key to the outlet's success, and it also provided staff with the opportunity to fine-tune their skills before the official opening.
Town of Port Hedland Mayor Kelly Howlett was the first person through the door of the finished facility. Ms Howlett congratulated Dome on opening in the old District Medical Officers' Quarters and said the Town was pleased to work with the company on the lease of the building.
"Dome have done a fantastic renovation of the historic building and brought it back to its former glory," she said.
"Well done to Danielle Anderson and her team.
"It certainly is a magic spot."
