Wightman claims May mug honours

Port Hedland Gold Club hosted the May Monthly Mug on Saturday, with Gary Wightman taking the honours with a score of 68 ahead of Darryl Jefford and Steve Lindley on 69 on countback.

Sponsored by the Moreschi family, the best gross overall was Lincoln Tavo (75), while best gross ladies went to Teresa Fairclough on 87.

Nearest to the pin on the 2nd "money" hole went to Roger Heenan.

Jefford, Lindley and Gary Bright also won nearest to the pin on holes 8, 13 and 17 respectively.

"The Russian Spy" took out the men's longest drive on hole No. 16 while PHCG ladies' captain Natalie Devenish won the ladies' long drive.

Devenish said the day went well, with 42 players taking part in the competition.

"Next week is the 36-hole Sand Green Challenge sponsored by the Port Hedland Golf Club," she said.

"Saturday tee-off is noon, with names in by 11.30am."
