This young python out in the open stood little chance after a goanna decided it would make a good snack

A snake and goanna have been caught on camera locked in a life-or-death battle in the Pilbara.

Fly-in, fly-out worker Cory Downes filmed the tussle near Newman and posted it to Instagram this morning.

In the video, the goanna can be seen calculating how to grab the young python before lunging right for the head.

After 20 seconds of thrashing about the python attempts to coil around the goanna’s mouth to no avail.

When asked on his page who won, Downes simply replied “not the baby python”.
