Jen can vouch for Ginger Fox fashion
The first two vouchers in a BHP gift card program have been cashed in at active wear and fashion shop Ginger Fox.
Ginger Fox, currently operated in run out of owner Katie Hodgson’s Port Hedland home, redeemed vouchers 001 and 002 for the special shopping spree, a big step for BHP, which has been trying to figure out the best way to work with local businesses for years.
The vouchers were both for $30 and were used by BHP marine team worker Jen Scroggie to buy purchase some clothing and jewellery.

“As a long-term resident it’s nice for me to know I’m still going to retain some variety in town by supporting our local businesses,” Ms Scroggie said.
“Otherwise as a female “I have Kmart or Just Jeans pretty much and Stingers, but there is not a lot of fashion variety, which is it what we get through supporting Katie’s business.”
Mrs Hodgson said she was excited Ginger Fox was able to be an early adopter of the vouchers.
“I think its good exposure and I’m so grateful,” she said.
“I often get told people didn’t know I was here.”
Ginger Fox has regular pop-up stalls in the town’s shopping centres and won best business with fewer than five employees at the Port Hedland Chamber of Commerce’s 2018 Business Awards.
Ms Scroggie has lived in Port Hedland for eight years and said if shops like Ginger Fox weren’t supported then they struggled to last long-term.
Other businesses lined up for to be in the voucher the program are Hai’s Coffee, Hedland Emporium, PHYSIOlogical Training, Pharmacy 777, Port Hedland, Charmers Jewellers, Port Hedland Yacht Club, Oceania-Lee Hair Design, Lil’s Retravision and Hedland Harbour Cafe.
Businesses who employ less than 20 full-time employees and have a significant physical presence near BHP’s operations are eligible to be part of the multi-national’s Local Buying program.
