South Sydney superstar Latrell Mitchell has been hit with a breach notice by the NRL for allegedly breaching the code of conduct after a leaked photo of him with a white substance was released earlier in the week.

The photo was allegedly taken in Dubbo last weekend while the injured fullback was doing a coaching clinic in the local community.

The grainy image was shared on social media and showed the Souths star leaning over a table with a white substance, although it remains unclear what that was.

The NRL integrity unit has been investigating the incident this week with help from the Rabbitohs.

“The National Rugby League today issued South Sydney Rabbitohs player Latrell Mitchell with a breach notice alleging a breach of the NRL code of conduct following an NRL Integrity Unit investigation,” an NRL statement read.

“The particulars of the Breach Notice are that Mitchell featured in imagery, which emerged publicly on 12 August 2024, which depicted him acting in a manner which has brought the game into disrepute.

“Mitchell has five business days to respond to the breach notice.”

It’s been a rollercoaster 2024 for Mitchell who was suspended earlier in the year, helped the Blues keep the State of Origin series alive with a dominant performance in game two, before he suffered a serious foot injury which has kept him out for the past five weeks.

It’s unclear what any potential penalty could look like given Mitchell is unlikely to return from injury this season, with the NRL able to fine or suspend him – potentially from rep matches – if they decide to go down that path.

The photo is believed to have been taken in Dubbo last weekend where Mitchell, who is currently injured, was conducting a football clinic.
