Port Hedland Primary students will be able to bury their noses in great novels and picture stories for weeks to come after the school held a book fair last week.

With bookseller Scholastic setting up stalls in the school library, students and their families were able to arrive before classes each morning to grab a barbecue breakfast and browse a wide selection of books.

To add to the fun, school librarian Leanne North created an amazing kings and queens theme.

Deputy principal Trudy Burke said the imaginative setting helped draw students into the library to browse the books.

"She made a dragon that hung from the roof and a throne and she decorated the library beautifully, so it caught the kids' enthusiasm," she said.

"From the very outset, the kids were engrossed and for those who are not normally (regular readers) … setting up such an environment meant they wanted to be there, investigating and searching to see what else they could find."

As well as giving the chance for students to thumb through novels and discover new authors and genres, the fair also helped the school raise cash to buy more books for the library.

"We ended up making over $7000, which resulted in over $2000 commission going to the school," Ms Burke said.

"This will enable us to buy great quality texts for the kids to borrow and the teachers to use as resources in their classrooms."
