Discoloured water harmless: Watercorp
The Water Corporation has claimed discoloured water which flowed from taps in Port Hedland earlier this month was harmless.
Watercorp North West regional manager Rino Trolio said the discoloured water was caused by a water main leak on Cooke Point Road which was undergoing repairs.
"The main had to be isolated while we repaired the leak and this changed the flow of water through the water supply scheme," he said.
"The change stirred up harmless sediment, which collects inside pipes over time and caused temporary discoloured water.
"The suspended particles that cause discoloured water are harmless to health and the water is safe for use … however, we understand that discoloured water is unpleasant and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."
Water quality in Port and South Hedland is tested weekly with recent samples meeting health guidelines according to the Water Corporation.
