A group of young girls with the Youth Involvement Council could get the chance to showcase an anti-drug campaign they created to the Australian Prime Minister.

YIC youth worker Hannah Taylor, Tiesha Tinker, Noleen Maher and Maxii and Philisha Ryder created a short film for the WA Police Students Advising Youth project for 2014.

The group recently found out the film had been selected to screen at the November State finals in front of 800 guests, where the overall winner will also be announced.

YIC Birds and Bees co-ordinator Stacey Turale said part of the judging criteria for the finalists was public appeal and encouraged everyone in the community to get behind the project and bump up the hits on YouTube.

"We've already had over 1000 hits so far, so it's a really great start," she said.

The video tackles the issue of chroming, which the girls decided was a major problem specific to the region.

Tiesha said she had been offered drugs before, but had the courage to say "no".

"I said 'no' because that stuff is going to mess with your head," she said. "You can't have a second chance when you go down that path. You just have to look at people now who've been doing it their whole lives."

Acting Sergeant Tam McKeown, who created the SAY project, said young people were often reluctant to take on board the advice delivered to them by adults, whether it was about the use of illegal drugs, road safety or any other community safety topic.

"The SAY Project aims to harness their enthusiasm, innovation and creativity to empower them to become educators of other youth on topical subjects," he said.
