South Hedland police have urged parents in the community to keep a "watchful eye" on their kids after four young offenders were arrested for breaking into the South Hedland Shopping Centre last week.

The four juveniles, who ranged in age from 8-13, were identified last Friday morning after breaking into the Shopping Centre on two consecutive nights to steal lollies from Kmart.

South Hedland Acting Senior Sergeant Jayd Morawski said as a result three youths had been charged with multiple burglary offences.

"Our biggest concern is these kids are of very tender years, they shouldn't even be out unsupervised after hours," he said.

Sen. Sgt Morawski called on parents and guardians to be more vigilant about keeping children home safe at night time.

"We need the community to take some responsibility and make sure kids are at home in bed where they belong, not out committing indictable criminal offences," he said.

"These are babies breaking in to steal less than $100 worth of lollies but the consequences of their actions are very serious.

"At the end of the day, it's still a burglary offence and the chances of detention are still very high."

The three juvenile offenders are due to appear in South Hedland Magistrate's Court this week.
