East Pilbara detectives are investigating the sudden death of a 20-year-old woman overnight.

The woman, who worked at a station outside Port Hedland, was rushed by her partner to a nearby nursing post at a Roy Hill camp site, but was declared dead on arrival.

South Hedland police Acting Senior Sergeant John Strong said the woman's partner told police he woke in the middle of the night to find her not breathing.

"He has taken her to where he knew there would be medical help," Sen. Sgt Strong said.

"Police, detectives and forensics are on site."
