Port Hedland impress at North West champs
Port Hedland Netball Association was one of the strongest squads to compete in the North West Netball Region Championships last month, winning two out of six divisions.
More than 80 players and officials representing six teams - from under-12s to masters - travelled to Broome to take part in the event against teams from Kununurra, Derby, Broome, Newman, Tom Price, Paraburdoo and Karratha.
Port Hedland's under-16s and under-14s won their divisions while Port Hedland's A-grade and under-12s teams finished runners-up.
A number of junior players were identified by Netball WA talent scouts during the competition and four of Port Hedland's A-grade team were selected in the Netball WA All Stars team including Emma Goodall, Teneal Russell, Leah Sahajdak and Tracey Swami.
Port Hedland Netball Association president Kate Fry said the players, officials and volunteers had worked hard in the past few months to prepare for the championships.
"Our dedication really paid off," she said.
"We are also grateful to our sponsors Pilbara Ports Authority, BHP Billiton, Pilbara Development Commission, North West Telegraph, Hedland Home Hardware, Fortescue Metals Group, Category 5 Labour Management and Pilbara Constructions."
