Port Kennedy: 21-year-old charged after stolen car set alight and burnt through three hectares of land

A 21-year-old man will face multiple charges after a stolen car was dumped and set alight on a bush track in Perth’s southern suburbs last month. On February 3, fire crews received reports a stolen Kia Rio sedan had been ditched and set ablaze near Scientific Drive in Port Kennedy. The bushfire burned for several hours and scorched three hectares of vegetation. Strike Force Vulcan officers have since charged a 21-year-old man following their investigation. The Port Kennedy man was charged with criminal damage by fire; stealing a motor vehicle and two counts of having no authority to drive. He will appear before Rockingham Magistrates Court on March 24.
