Cassia Primary School students embraced cultural diversity last month as part of its Harmony Week celebrations.

During the week, students were encouraged to share their cultural heritage, enjoyed delicious food from five countries and dressed up in costumes from different cultures for assembly.

Teacher Kylie Love said students from each class dressed up in the costume of a country they had been researching during the week such as Ireland, China, Australia and the UK.

Representatives from each class told the assembly what harmony meant to them.

Answers included "harmony means a whole group of people together in peace" and "harmony is listening to and respecting people from different cultures and making sure everyone belongs".

The week culminated in a market stall with traditional food from five countries.

"Students loved sampling the different foods in a market style atmosphere," Ms Love said.

"Even though Harmony Week is officially over for another year, (we hope to) … continue to celebrate the motto 'everyone belongs' and show our community that we as a school are many cultures combined and that we live, work and play together in happiness and peace."
