The Newman Jetsprint Club held a meeting on May 30, with a large crowd turning out to watch the boats navigate a tight course, full of twists and turns.

The course is one of only two operating in the State, with the other in Perth.

A club spokesman said several women made their racing debuts during the meeting and children as young as nine raced in the junior development boats.

"The first time you race this track your thoughts are that there is no way you can get a boat around it," he said.

"But once you walk the track you realise it is a bit deceptive and maybe you can do it.

"What you soon find once racing begins is we can not only get our boats around the track, we can achieve some high speeds and get full throttle in several places."

The next meet will be on August 15 in Newman.
